on the C train downtown
absorbing everything
like old times
blackness absorbs it all
finding spring in darkest days
finding the halal guys from queens,
street-snacking, not sweating it,
just like the olden days
knowing i'll find william later-
show up with a handle
of jack and sit with my one black
friend in this town, hit up
the old hood
find some neighbors
make a surprise, ring a doorbell
maybe find some cheap food,
maybe just whiskey with william.
and a walk into the slope to crash.
tomorrow more absorption
soaking of gazes with oil-stained glasses
and panels
slipping down plastic bench still
and black and white
and red against green smiles
