With a classic design and updated features that add durability and performance, the PowerLock line of tape measures is the perfect balance between classic Stanley design and the best innovations in tool manufacture. BladeArmor coating is a patented industrial thermoplastic coating, the very same material that has been used to strengthen and protect aircraft parts, such as the rotor blades on the Sikorsky Black Hawk Helicopter. Simply put, it helps aircraft survive war zones, and it also helps tape blades survive construction zones. Applying BladeArmor coating to tape blades reduces both tape breakage and tape returns, enabling it to conquer the toughest testing ground of all -- the job site!

    From the Manufacturer

The Stanley Works, originally a bolt and door hardware manufacturing company located in New Britain, Connecticut; was founded in 1843 by Frederick T. Stanley. A few years later, in 1857, Frederick’s cousin, Henry Stanley, founded The Stanley Rule and Level Company. In 1920, The Rule and Level Company merged with The Stanley Works and would go on to become it’s famous Hand Tools Division. Over the years, The Stanley Works has produced some of the most innovative and useful tools ever made. Among these tools are the Bailey Plane, the Surform shaper, the PowerLock tape rule and most recently the FatMax line of products. Today, more than ever, Stanley continues to be an industry leader in tool innovation. In 2001, Stanley introduced more than 100 new products, bringing to 400 the number of new products introduced in the past four years. As a direct result of Stanley’s commitment to excellence, Stanley was awarded the Prestigious Golden Hammer Award, presented for New Product Innovation in both 2000 and 2001.

As a carpenter, this has been my preferred tape measure: it fits comfortably in the hand and itsn''t overly bulky or complicated while still performing well for hundreds of measures a week on the jobsite.
However, there are two problems with the new design:
    1) They recently added 1/32” marks for the first foot of the tape. This makes it unnecessarily messy and confusing to read. This isn''t a caliper or archtect''s scale. It''s a tape measure meant for fast and fluid work. I now have to hold the tape at the 12” mark and then do math to get an accurate read for small measurements because I can''t expect to count 1/32 increments with repeatable accuracy 20x a day.
    2) The plastic “mouth” of the tape measure is just big enough that the tape sometimes gets caught sideways when retracting. Not a big deal, but after this happens just a few times, the tape carved a groove into the plastic and now gets stuck there every time.
Stanley tape measures used to last me at least 3-5 years of regular use. I’ve bought three of these this year and only one still works.

When I tried to mark something at the 10" mark, I noticed that the tape measure is not properly marked. There should be a long line running right between the 1 and the 0. All the other numbers seem to be properly marked. See photo.

I really like this tape measure design! I bought this one to replace the other I''ve had for years, which still works! I''ve been in the construction industry for 30 years and use tape measures daily. All the big box retailers have begun to sell large bulky, heavy tapes with humongous tips on them. Which I can''t stand to use in the real world of construction. My current Stanley PowerLock tape measure has been in service for so long ,the printing on the case has worn away, but the tape itself is still working. I decided to retire it because it''s getting slow to recoil at times. The smaller tip on these tapes fit into smaller areas which I find important for finish work.

    EDIT:
After using this tape a bit. I find it is not of the same quality as my previous Stanley. The tape seems flimsy. I went back to my old Stanley but it finally broke and now I’m using this Stanley tape ,but am not happy with it. Stanley needs to step up it’s game and use better steel for the tapes.

AND I MUST ADD AMAZON is the best for online purchases. Their web site is the ultimate choice for my purchases.
RETURNS AND REFUNDS appears as important to Amazon as selling products.

Bought this for simple use around the house. Not a contractor or carpenter by any means, just needed something to measure things for hanging pictures and shelves and space planning, nothing extensive.

The tape is indeed the 25'' advertised, however, despite appearances, it is not metal of any kind. The measure housing itself is chromed plastic. It does seem pretty heavy duty though, so I wouldn''t worry about that.

Everything works just fine, but the reason that I docked a star was for the fact that the tape lock doesn''t seem to work very well and never seems to go down all the way so the tape never gets firmly locked in place on my particular tape measure. Overall, for at least the basic household uses I need this for, it works fine, just with it would lock correctly.

These are hands down the best tapes out there, as a professional finish carpenter I use them everyday, they will last a long time. The size is "just right" to hold comfortably in your hand, I had new one malfunction and called Stanley about it, It was "no problem" they sent me another just like that no issue at all, I recommend this tape for all round work, sure it does not "stand out" 8'' as they say, but I have never found that to be a problem.

###EDIT### After using the new Stanley tapes I bought I have to recant some of the good things I had to say about the tapes. I bought 3 of them, 2 of them have split 1/4 inch strips along the sides and then turn into razor blades! I had one break and cut my thumb. Not happy with the thinner blade material. I found one of the older tapes that look just like these and the tape was much thicker. Just like everything else you get less for the same money. I will be looking for a replacement to the "former great Stanley tapes". Shame because Stanley meant quality in my book.

I thought it was a different version at first, but I am thoroughly disappointed with the inability of the hook to grab hold in order to pull a measurement. it slips off very easily. Not at all like the 3 rivet version Stanley has made, and continues to make.
This hook doesn''t have rivets, that is why I don''t think it''s a Stanley product.

Been using Stanley 25'' tapes since 1975. Have lots of old Powerlock tapes. The blade on this tape is by far the wimpiest I have ever seen on a Stanley tape. The blade on my 90''s vintage 8'' Powerlock is better than this. Some economy 25'' Stanley tapes I got on sale back in 2004 (bought 3 of them for $4.99 each at a big box) have much stronger blades than this. Got this to replace a 25'' Fat Max because the Fat Max blade was starting to crack on the edge so as to become a cut finger hazard.

This one will be marked on the back with a sharpie for laying out deck balusters because that''s about all it''s good for. Quite obviously the quality of Stanley PowerLock tapes has gone way down. Saddens me to say that after 40 years I won''t buy another. Time to check out the red team''s tape offerings.

these are a knock off of the original Stanley product tape measure, don''t get tricked as I did I purchased three of these months ago and just recently started to use them for my industrial commercial interior construction. very disappointed the blade for hooking on the end of a metal stud or tee bar cross tee or peice of metal track trim or what have you, the blade just slips right off as soon as you try to pull the case away to take or mark a measurement cause it has no edge to catch and stay on the end of the item your trying to measure. so unless you have a buddy hold it for you, it''s very frustrating to work with this knock off tape measure. true about the saying " you get what you pay for" so disappointed :*(
